Re: [TYPO3-UG Australia] problems with extension manager

24-03-2006 04:38  by  Cate Deans Smith,   cdeans(at)diess.com.au

From previous email...

>You can alway download the extension from the details sectionof each
extension on >http://typo3.org/extensions/repository/

>Thanks for that - ...I have been able to download and upload to access
them.

So yes, managed to download, upload and install - but the template files
aren't showing in fileadmin.

I have other files in there, and have defined a root that isn't the absolute
top of the database, but that shouldn't matter, surely? I have cleared cache
and tried uninstalling and installing again ... still nothing ...

Any hints? Im sure its something silly Im doing that I haven't realised
affects it...

You have to copy the files from the extension's folder to your fileadmin
folder. Think of the copy in the extension's folder as the default copy,
and the one you copy to your folder your customised version. That's
useful too, just in case you make some change or modification that
breaks your template.

You may need also to go to your TS Template Constants and point to the
extension to the location of your template in your fileadmin folder.

The root tree in the website structure isn't reflected in the fileadmin
folder. To look at what's in your fileadmin folder you need to go to
Web>File>Filelist. Provided you are an admin user you will see all
that's under fileadmin.

Hi Paul - thanks for the swift response ..

Ok ... do you mean by ftp? I am assuming bcs I cant find the folder from
within Typo3..

You may need also to go to your TS Template Constants and point to the
extension to the location of your template in your fileadmin folder.

Not sure how to do this...

The root tree in the website structure isn't reflected in the fileadmin
folder. To look at what's in your fileadmin folder you need to go to
Web>File>Filelist. Provided you are an admin user you will see all
that's under fileadmin.

Yeah that's cool - familiar with fileadmin...

Cate

most extensions will have their HTML templates in the extension forlder
usually in the 'pi1' or 'res' folder
eg
typo3conf/ext/tt_news/pi1/news_template.tmpl

if you want to modify the template, copy it from the extension folder,
make changes and upload it to say "fileadmin/templates/"

then you have to select your new template using the constant editor.

hope this helps
